Intermediate Format

DocFamily supports the concept of so called “Intermediate Format”. An intermediate format is a print-datastream independent representation of a document. A document then consists of one or many pages. A page contains exact information where characters, words and images shall be places.
DocFamily supports two ways to create an intermediate format.
1.The Formatter of DocFamily converts XSL-FO to the intermediate format
2.The input processors of DocFamily parse a print-data stream such as PDF, PostScript, XPS or AFP and convert them to the intermediate format.

DocFamily supports rendering of the intermediate format into various formats such as XHTML, AFP, PDF, PDF/A, PostScript or PCL.
